In the course of my major in communication design at the department Media & Design at the University of applied sciences in Graz, we had the chance to work on a redesign concept for the Austrian magazine for art, culture, and lifestyle, the Portrait Magazin. In order to meet the high standards of their readership, my colleagues Bettina Fink, Bianca Gruber, Angelika Schneider, Dev Dutta and I tried to keep our design and layout up to date. In the course of our redesign, we focused on a clear structure, as well as a general modernization. The layout is now open, varied, modern and yet playful. The general character of the magazine should be preserved. We did not want to create a completely new product, but instead adopt the existing basic concept and subsequently adapt our thoughts and approaches. The design should be straightforward, as we wanted to build on the high-quality character of the already existing portrait magazine. Nevertheless, there should be room within the magazine to try something new in terms of layout. Also, we had to write all the articles/interviews by ourself. I had the pleasure to interview one of my favorite designers Kristina Bartošová..

After pitching our concept to the makers of the Portrait Magazin, we were selected as one of the winning teams. Images by Bettina Fink.
